Maybe the Best Part of Sex Happens Outside the Bedroom

Maybe some of the best parts of sex aren't actually sex.

They're everything that happens before it.

The look across a room that lasts a second longer than it should.

The conversation where you suddenly become aware of how close you're standing.

The first time you realize someone isn't just being friendly.

The private joke that nobody else understands.

The text that makes you smile because you know exactly what they meant.

The anticipation of knowing you're going to see someone later.

Sometimes desire is at its strongest when nothing is happening yet.

Because desire isn't only physical.

It's attention.

It's imagination.

It's tension.

It's feeling someone notice you differently from everyone else in the room.

And maybe that's why attraction can occasionally disappear even when the sex itself hasn't changed.

We stop flirting.

We stop surprising each other.

We stop looking.

Touch becomes familiar instead of anticipated.

There's nothing wrong with familiarity. There's something wonderful about becoming completely comfortable with another person.

But sometimes, in becoming comfortable, we forget to keep wanting each other out loud.

Maybe keeping desire alive means remembering that the person beside you isn't simply your partner.

They're still someone you can flirt with.

Someone you can notice.

Someone you can make wonder what you're thinking.

Someone you can still make feel wanted.

Because sometimes the sexiest thing two people can do...

is spend the entire day knowing what might happen later.
